Holiday Programs & Services: USO-Metro is excited to offer special holiday programs to bring military families together and to say thank you to our troops and their loved ones during the holiday season.
Project USO Elf: USO-Metro salutes military children and families this holiday season! Registration of your children to be sponsored by area companies, organizations and families will begin in late October. Children receive age-appropriate gifts personally selected by their “elf.”
I'd like to sponsor a military child through Project USO Elf: Area companies, organizations and families can register to "sponsor" a local military child this holiday season through USO-Metro's Project-USO Elf. Donors are provided with the military child's first name, age, gender and their wish list. Details based on individual family. No personal information is disclosed about the adopted military family. If you are registering on behalf of your company/organization please be sure to complete all requested business information. Registration will open late October 2013.
Turkeys for Troops: During the Thanksgiving holiday, USO-Metro is honored to say thank you to local military families by providing Thanksgiving Food Baskets! This program is open to active duty service members, E5 and below. Please note, grocery store gift cards may also be distributed in lieu of baskets. Information for registration will be distributed by your Senior Advisor.
Trees for Heroes: Each year, BAE Systems and USO-Metro host the Trees for Our Heroes event in appreciation of those who serve. Each participant is able to cut down a Christmas Tree or to chose a pre-cut tree participate in holiday craft making receive snacks and beverages. This program is for active duty service members and/or their dependent family members E5 and below. If you are an E6 you must be referred by your Senior Enlisted Advisor to USO-Metro. Regsitration will begin by mid November 2013.
Holiday Hotel: To thank our service men and women stationed in the Washington-Baltimore Metropolitan area, USO-Metro partners with local hotels to provide hotel accommodations for visiting family members during the holiday season. Apply for free hotel stay of any 3 consecutive nights max for your visiting family during the duration of the program.
Regsitration will begin mid November 2013.
Cookie Run: On Christmas Eve USO volunteers will hold their annual Cookie Run where they will personally deliver holiday bags of goodies to military members on duty. The holiday bags include candy canes, hot chocolate packets, cookies and chips just to name a few.
Health Net Celebration of Children: USO-Metro partners with Health Net to host a special holiday celebration with games, crafts, prizes, gifts, food and a visit from special guests, including Santa! Children are bused from installations around the area to the event location and dropped off mid-afternoon. This event is open to children (ages 4-11 years) of active duty military.
2012: More than 225 children visited Health Net’s North Pole and received a bag filled with toys!
